Valentino: The Last Emperor

Long, White, Romantic, fitted bodice, delicate pleats, adorned with sashes that flow like a dream... A masterpiece to the eye..... A creation born within a waking moment......

Valentino: The Last Emperor

For me watching this film was like unveiling a world of lavish beauty and being completely overwhelmed. As I sat there completely immersed, absorbing every moment remembering what it was like as a young girl turning the pages of a magazine filled with extravagant clothing, I could only dream of wearing.

This film was not a documentary but a love story, a love story of beauty.

Valentino Garavani, a remarkable 45 years in the business....along with his business partner, life partner and friend... Giancarlo Giammetti...they are simply indispensable to one another... Giancarlo has this immense respect and love for Valentino which makes you build a soft spot for him as he has always lived in Valentino’s shadow.

This film will open your eye to how much hard work is actually put into making these masterpieces, a workshop full of seamstresses in white coats... looks somewhat like a science lab but all these incredibly talented women create life to a sketch all by hand.... EVERYTHING is hand-stitched.

It covers the much talked about retirement of Valentino, yet his response is continuously opposing, positive and nothing short of a clear demonstration of relentless love for what he does.... to imagine this fashion house without its master would be like a kingdom without a king?

It delivers all the runway glamour, an up close glimpse of Valentino’s life, past and present.... and it is unexpectedly eye opening.

Enamoured...
